Meet Crystal Luxmore

Physical Therapist

Crystal Luxmore, Physical TherapistCrystal knew early on that she wanted a career in health care. Her mom was a nurse, and Crystal grew up captivated by the medical shorthand she’d see in her mom’s notes, like a language all its own. A second-grade field trip to a hospital, where she got to try out a wheelchair, only cemented the pull. As she got older, she realized it wasn’t illness that interested her so much as the physical and neurological challenges people worked through.

Growing up in a small town in southern Minnesota, Crystal headed north to the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, where she earned her undergraduate degree in health sciences and her graduate degree in physical therapy, finishing her master’s in December 2002. One of the things she still enjoys most about physical therapy is the variety, both in the people she meets and the challenges she gets to help them work through.

Her Path to Whole-Body Care

Crystal spent her first 12 years in pediatrics, working alongside speech and occupational therapists to address the whole child. About a decade ago, she brought that same whole-person approach to Family Chiropractic and Wellness, where her focus expanded to include a broader range of patients alongside the occasional pediatric case.

She’s also trained in craniosacral therapy, carries a certificate in manual lymph drainage, and is a certified kinesio taping practitioner. Working in a setting with a broader wellness and whole-body focus has been a natural fit for the way Crystal has approached physical therapy throughout her career.

Her Approach to Treatment

Crystal’s treatment style leans heavily on manual therapy and myofascial release. Stretching and strengthening exercises matter too, but she places particular value on hands-on work to loosen tight muscles and fascia and help improve mobility.

We do more of the myofascial release than a lot of places do because I think that it needs to be addressed.”

Sometimes, muscles become overstrained because they’re working overtime to compensate for other areas. Crystal may use hands-on techniques to help those muscles relax before focusing on strengthening the muscles that need to do more of the work. It’s a balance between manual therapy and exercise, rather than simply having patients demonstrate exercises they’re already doing at home.

She also works closely with Dr. Jake, Jarett our massage therapist, and Angela our personal trainer, so patients get care shaped around the whole picture rather than one piece of it.

Outside the Clinic

Crystal is kept busy by her husband, her twins (who are headed off to Iowa State), and the family’s German shepherd. When she gets a free moment, she likes to walk and exercise outdoors, and she’ll jump at any chance to play pickleball.
